Set off on a 4 hours journey to experience a contrasting landscape, traveling deep into the Cambodian heartland to Preah Vihear, a temple dedicated to Shiva in the 9th century. Magically concealed and perched on the Dângrêk hilltop 525 m above the Thai and Khmer jungle plain, it offers a breathtaking panoramic view.
On the way, stop in Anh Long Veng, a small town, the former last stronghold of the Khmer Rouge. After a leisurely stroll and a quick insight into the village and general headquarters of Pol Pot’s regime we proceed to Preah Vihear. This magnificent site chosen by Suryavarman I stretches 800m along the crest and is particularly well preserved, mainly thanks to its remoteness.
Preah Vihear is an outstanding masterpiece of Khmer architecture in terms of layout, decoration and relationship to the spectacular surrounding landscape.
